Morani River Ranch originally began its breeding program in order to restock the native population of whitetail deer on the ranch that decimated due to drought and overgrazing by livestock. What began as a practical solution to a wildlife restocking issue has turned into a passionate love affair with what we consider the most unique and incredible animal on planet earth—whitetail deer.
Morani River Ranch has been a whitetail breeder in Texas since 2002. We focus on South Texas genetics with an emphasis on BIG frame, typical deer. Our foundation stock comes from world-class breeders such as Berry Whitetails, The Refuge, Cola Blanca Whitetails, The Perlitz Ranch, Kotzur and many more. Our current line of breeder bucks range from Stimulus, with a score of 271” as a two-year-old (out of the famous Berry Line,) and Slingshot, scoring 226” as a three-year-old (out of the famous Refuge line), to our 200” plus breeders from the Perlitz and Wheeler lines.
Morani River Ranch has a program that is consistently producing some of the largest large frame typical whitetail deer in the world. It is now commonplace for us to produce 150” to 170” typical bucks at one year of age, and we have produced several deer every year that score 180” to 200” at two years of age. Our best two-year-old in 2008 was a clean typical 8x8 with 26” beams and a 24” spread (White #5) scoring just over 190”. This is the type of deer we are focused on producing year after year.
Our world-class breeding facility and working pens allow for the most modern and sophisticated handling of our deer and the use of laparoscopic artificial insemination (AI), cervical AI and a full range of medical treatments. Hands-on access to our deer herd assures the most humane and highest quality care available in the industry for our deer.
We believe as a permitted Texas whitetail breeder, it is of utmost importance, as well as a privilege and responsibility, to interact with these animals on a daily basis. Our goal is to achieve the highest level of care and maintenance of our herd in order to keep them healthy and strong, while simultaneously keeping their natural instincts intact.
